Some of the earliest medical advances were made in London spurring the growth of London's Medical Museums. The bodies of criminals executed at Tyburn between 1571 and 1783 were taken to the Surgeon's Hall in the Old Bailey for public dissection& medical teaching. In 1854, John Snow, a London doctor in 1854 discovered the cause of cholera after realising that 500 cases of the disease were clustered around a single water pump alone on Broad Street. The water from this pump was polluted.
Penicillin, the most important antibacterial drug ever, was discovered in London in 1928 by Alexander Fleming, a young Scottish doctor .
These & many more important medical advances are featured in the many London Medical Museums.
