The largest collection of working mill steam engines in the UK is located in Bolton, Greater Manchester. A magnificent Museum of Victorian Industrial Heritage. Samuel Crompton, born Bolton, invented the spinning mule in 1779 which transformed the cotton spinning industry. At its peak Bolton was the most important cotton spinning centre in the world with over 200 mills in the town. The Bolton Steam Museum preserves the Cotton Spinning Industrial Heritage with this fantastic collection of steam engines that powered the mills of Lancashire.

The North Pennines Heritage Trust works to conserve the historic Industrial Heritage of man's activities in the landscape of the Northern Pennines. Lead mining in the Pennines goes back to the time of the Romans so come & view this superb Industrial Heritage attraction.
