Richard Brinsley Sheridan was born in 1751 Dublin where he attended Grammar School.The whole family moved to London in 1758 & Richard Brinsley was fortunate to be sent to Harrow which is still one of the top schools in England.
Sheridan came from a Theatrical family.His mother was a playwright & his father an actor manager. Not a bad background for a budding playwright.

Two of Sheridan's Plays are still performed regularly today - The Rivals & The School for Scandal. Long recognised as a play of genius, The School for Scandal is undoubtedly one of the greatest Comedies ever written in the English Language.
Sheridans's plays were so successful that he was able to eventually buy the Theatre Royal Drury Lane Covent Garden, buying out David Garrick, a famous Shakespearean Actor of the Day.
Sheridan was elected to the Housesof Parliament in 1780 & had a high profile assisted by his wit & eloquence. He died in 1815 after a life of riches which ended in poverty. He is buried in Poet's Corner in Westminister Abbey
